British School of Geneva's Geography Trip to Naples & the area of Mount Vesuvius

In October 2016, The British School of Geneva’s Year 13 Geography class visited Naples and the area of Mount Vesuvius to study plate tectonics and volcanic hazards.

The visit consisted of a morning in the Phlegrean Fields, an area of ongoing tectonic and seismic activity, where we were lucky enough to encounter a government seismologist who was in the process of taking monitoring readings. He kindly answered our questions and it was an excellent opportunity for the students to deepen their understanding of the topic.

We also visited the crater of Vesuvius itself where students conducted surveys and questionnaires, and went to Pompeii, an excellent example of the destructive force nature can have upon people and the planet.
