TechLabs Summer Camps

Our summer programs go beyond the “T” in STEAM – it’s not just a coding camp. TechLabs programs explore the interaction of the digital world with scientific, engineering, artistic and mathematical concepts through projects and play. At our camps we take STEAM off the screens and put fun in kids’ hands.

To achieve this, our instructor/counselor team is comprised of high-energy, tech-savvy, experienced educators committed to sharing their knowledge of cutting-edge technologies with their campers, empowered with the most up-to-date tools and learning paradigms to deliver an experience children will find memorable and educationally sustainable.

All of our instructors/counselors are also EduCare certified in Child Protection by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS).

Week-long (Monday – Friday), full and half day programs for 8-16 year old children during the months of July and August. Daily camp schedule details on registration form.

Facilities

Robot Battle Lab: Children will be working with Sumo Robot League (SRL) and MakeBlock Robots. SRL and MakeBlock are scalable STEM education platforms using a competitive robotics curriculum for 8–16 year old children. The program provides hands on lessons that give students the opportunity to build a robot using: electrical circuits, 3D print adaptive and custom decorative components, skill-level appropriate code development platforms, and code sensor-based autonomous response algorithms. Children will be using the C++ programming language, and Scratch for younger participants. In addition, the robot kits are expandable to include exercises in mobile app development, machine learning (AI), and the internet of things.

Flight, Drone Rocketry Lab: Does your child dream of airplanes and flying machines? Do they spend their spare time doodling aircraft or rocket designs? This camp is made just for them! The Flight or Rocketry curriculum are designed for one week each. We’ll be using the FliteTest STEM platform, Workbench Education Sphero/drone projects, and the European Space Agency’s rocketry program for kids. We’ll be learning about propulsion, aerodynamics, computerized airframe design, and the basics of flight while building our own take-home aircraft. Our drone platforms are for more than just flying: we’ll film our activities using POV cameras, and in our down time, organize drone races. In the rocketry module, children will build rockets that can fly using various propulsion systems, add custom 3D printed parts, learn about telemetry and complete flight and landing missions.

DIY Toy/Game/Media Lab: When you build your own BB8-style robot its a lot more fun! When you use Legos, its even easier and provides ample opportunity to experiment and improve your design and performance. And once its finished, we can race or compete using them against our camp-mates. How about making ball-sorters or your very own invention using Sam Labs gear? If movies or videos are your interest we have Go-Pros, 3D Fabrication, Drones and Stop Motion Film Making Equipment and editing software to help you make your own .GIFs, YouTube videos or stand-alone movies. Project Based Learning is the guiding principle for this camp, and is geared towards younger campers.
