Wild and Wacky Fun
When you think of Switzerland, you most likely imagine the Alps. Perhaps, you can see a few cows with bells around their necks, but llamas, butterflies and beavers are probably not the first animals that come to mind. These ‘unexpected’ animals, as well as a large number of other creatures are exactly the focus the three wild and wacky activities introduced below!
Animal Trail – Braunwald
At different eateries and hotels, patrons are afforded the opportunity to engage, observe, and connect with domesticated animals, ranging from llamas and sheep to rabbits. Each allocated “animal home” is furnished with panels containing compelling information about the animals residing there. To validate their visit, visitors can record their experience on a time card. Those who venture to all six designated locations, complete their cards, become eligible for a noteworthy reward accessible at the tourist office, and qualify for participation in the Animal Trail lottery.
This initiative not only enhances the hospitality experience by introducing a unique and interactive element but also encourages guests to explore various locations and learn about diverse domesticated species, fostering an appreciation for local fauna. It provides a multifaceted and engaging activity that combines education, leisure, and the chance to receive a special reward, making it an enticing and memorable offering for visitors seeking a distinctive experience during their stay.
Butterflies in the air
The tropical gardens Papiliorama and Nocturama in Kerzers are home to plants and animals from the tropics. In the Anthropodarium, arthropods are exhibited. The Swiss Butterfly Garden is dedicated to native butterfly species.
Day and night the rainforest is full of life and activity. Countless animal species enliven the jungle where a large variety of plants species can be found. In the tropical gardens Papiliorama and Nocturama in Kerzers, visitors discover the fascinating world of the tropics without having to fly half around the world.
1000 tropical butterflies and rare colibris live here. Visitors can make unusual observations among the animals in Nocturama. The roof’s cupola turns daylight into a full-moon night. At night, large floodlights imitate daylight. This enables the visitor to observe during daylight hours the lively play of sloths, bats, night monkeys and anacondas, who are active at night.
Jungle Trek experience: tropical forests, mangrove swamps and orchid ponds transport visitors to faraway lands in the company of freely roaming toucans, roseate spoonbills and iguanas.
Outside area
A wild lakeside habitat:
The Papiliorama foundation strives to raise awareness among its visitors of local flora and fauna and the importance of unspoiled habitats and biodiversity. With this in mind, the outside area features exclusively native species of plants, and the foundation is constantly adding valuable new dry and wet habitats. Thanks to its efforts, the area is now home to numerous native species of plants and animals.
Petting zoo:
Miniature donkeys, miniature goats, rabbits, ducks and chickens roam freely among the visitors. They love to be tickled behind the ears by even the youngest children and will patiently pose for a family photo.
