About Brillantmont International School
Brillantmont is 140 years old and is a family owned school with a very special, homely feel. It is not part of a group of schools but has been owned and run by the same family since its foundation. With around 80 students, aged 13-18, our school community is very close and we create a family atmosphere in which every student feels at home. Most of our students are boarding students, but we also have a small community of day students.
It is in the centre of Lausanne, a beautiful city on the shores of Lake Léman which has great sports facilities, shops, cinemas, cafés – a great place to be a teenager. Students are very well cared for and the school has outstanding facilities. Some students spend several years with us, others, just one year.
During the school year, we welcome students into 8th -12th Grade. They take courses which give the opportunity to study either British A Levels or an American High School programme with SAT and IELTS / TOEFL. Classes are small (average 9 students per class) and the students are closely supported by their teachers. All teaching is in English but students also learn French, the host language. Spanish and German classes are offered too and we can organise other language classes, if desired. It is possible to come to Brillantmont for 1 or 2 terms and we accept students in September, January and April.
All our students continue to university. We work closely with them to prepare their applications, wherever and whatever they want to do. Around 40% of our students go to the UK, around 30% stay in Switzerland, around 20% go to North America and the others go elsewhere.
Brillantmont is not just about learning in the classroom. It’s about seizing opportunities to explore the world around us. Model United Nations conferences in Singapore and The Hague allow students to put their diplomatic and debating skills to use. We also run a humanitarian building trip as well as being involved in community projects locally. There are many cultural, sporting and creative clubs available after class. At weekends, excursions are organised and from January to April, the school goes skiing every weekend. Our students are very international, from over 30 different nationalities and intercultural understanding is at the heart of our school. We have nationality quotas in place to ensure a diverse student body.
