Copperfield Verbier
In any school, one has a feel for what the school community focuses upon. This can be the school’s league table placing for exam results, places at top universities, the school’s prestige, a comfortable life for the staff, or profitability for the owners.
Copperfield’s focus is the community itself: creating strong links between students, staff, parents and the broader community within which the school rests. This is because our understanding is that schools occupy a unique position in any community, responsible for supporting children to become adults. Therefore, a school must serve its community and its students.
Only through service can leadership arise, and all other educational goals flow from and depend upon the school’s leadership position. This is a huge challenge and requires transparency, humility and patience. And it requires the school to role-model self-acceptance: recognising that we are all imperfect, all doing our best to be happy, and aiming to improve a little more each day.
Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities
Sports
We offer skiing twice or three times a week during the winter, depending on the student’s ability level. In addition, students can do hockey, football, golf, horse riding, downhill biking, and various other sports in the spring.
Extra-curricular activities
We offer music lessons with professional musicians, in a range of instruments, including the piano and the cello, to all our children.
Forest School takes place in the summer term, with students heading into the woods around Verbier with trained teachers to learn about the natural environment.
We also run a film theory class, a debate club, a young enterprise society, and extra language lessons in Spanish and Swedish.
Facilities
We currently have two multi-purpose tennis courts on site; we are located on the Verbier ski slopes; we have a science laboratory; a computer science laboratory; a library; and a 250-seat auditorium.
