Our focus on the German language is very high, as a testimony to our commitment we have an agreement with Basel-Stadt which guarantees a smooth transition into the local school system without the need to sit exams. Children have daily German lessons from Reception to Year 7, we follow the CEFR scheme for beginners and intermediate German speakers and Lehrplan 21 for advanced German Speakers.For those children who stay with ELA Basel from Reception to Year 7, we guarantee a B2.1 level achievement for non advanced German speakers which is the requirement to enter local schools. We also offer as part of the curriculum:
- Weekly PE/ Swimming sessions will be taught in German
- Weekly 1.5 hours of German Art/D&T (Year 7)
- Weekly 1.5 hours of Mathematics (Year 6 & 7) and Science (Year 7) taught in German is offered.
- Weekly German Booster classes as of Year 2 in the morning (30 min. in small groups) We also offer afterschool clubs in German:
- German Song Club (Reception/ Year 1)
- German Art Club (Year 2-4/ Year 5-7)
- German Immersion Clubs (Year 2-4/ Year 5-7)
- Weekly German Afterschool Club (Reception and Year 1)
- Twice a week German Homework Club (Year 2 to Year 7) provided by German staff.
