International School of Berne
Set in a unique location in the heart of Switzerland, the International School of Berne (ISBerne) provides a high-quality academic programme which encourages students to be reflective and involved in the learning process. This starts in the Early Learning Centre and progresses through to Grade 12. In 2017, the school moved to a beautiful, new, state-of-the-art campus 5 minutes from the original campus location.
The school’s IB Diploma programme was established in 1995; we were authorised to offer the IB Primary Years Programme in January 2007 and the IB Middle Years Programme in April 2007. ISBerne is one of only 9 IB schools in Switzerland offering three IB programmes. In addition to the IB, ISBerne also offers an accredited US High School Diploma.
Through the IB programmes, ISBerne students are well-prepared for the future and develop an understanding of cultural diversity, collaboration and independent learning.
With over 325 students from over 40 countries and staff from 12 nations, ISBerne offers a truly international community.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact the school, or better still, arrange a visit. ISBerne staff will be pleased to give you a tour and answer your questions.
Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities
Sports
We offer competitive teams in track and field, swimming and football (soccer) for most age groups in the school, as well as basketball in the secondary school.
We also offer an assortment of other competitive sports–based on student interest and coaching availability–such as tennis, volleyball, cross-country, golf and badminton.
ISBerne is a member of the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) sports league which offers various sporting tournaments in age groups from ages 7 to 19.
SGIS enables students to compete in tournaments against their peers at other international schools across Switzerland and periodically compete in international and local tournaments.
Being part of a team, learning to work together and honing attitudes of sportsmanship are valuable experiences and we encourage students to participate in an SGIS competitive team.
Extra-curricular activities
ISBerne runs a full After School Activities (ASA) programme provides students access to activities that are not offered within the framework of the curriculum, such as Band, Drama, Yearbook, Photography, Cub Scouts, Arts & Crafts, Lego Robotics, Dance.
The ASA programme complements, maintains and develops existing curricular aims and objectives, offering students challenging, new experiences to enrich their time at ISBerne.
The programme is run in three, eight-week cycles and the activities are held once a week for about an hour after school.
The ASA sports teams are non-competitive teams, ideal for students who do not wish to commit to the rigours of a competitive Swiss Group International Schools (SGIS) sports team.
Most activities are organised by teachers, however, the school also works with the community to offer special programmes at an additional cost and occasionally held off-campus.
