British School of Geneva goes back in time!

Year 6 and Year 7 students were taken back in time around 500 years, to the time of Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Shakespeare and François I for their Renaissance Day, on 16th June.
Twenty-four children, split into two teams, took part in different activities organised by the Year 7 subject teachers, to help them learn about the advances made in science, maths, medicine, poetry, theatre and art during the Renaissance.
Teachers and students alike dressed up for the occasion and we all learnt about the Renaissance people and their achievements. The undoubted highlight of the day was learning about parachutes and flying machines, first invented by Leonardo.
The students then designed, built and tested their own parachutes, with an egg for a passenger. There were a few casualties! Year 6 students got a taste of life in secondary school, and Year 7 students finished off their unit of work in history in a fun and informative way. All the students agreed that the day was ‘amazing’, ‘awesome’ and ‘fun’, and that they learnt a lot about this exceptional time in European history.
