Make a Splash – Switzerland’s most picturesque river and lakes for swimming this summer

Known as a winter paradise, many people do not think of Switzerland as the perfect destination for a beach holiday! What Switzerland lacks in seaside, it certainly makes up for with its spectacular lakes, rivers and other swimmable waterways. So, put on your swimsuits, grab your sunblock, and head to one of these wonderful places to take a dip!
Schwäbis, Thun
Opened in 1884, the Schwäbis River Pool is a wonderful family-friendly swimming facility located on the Aare River in Thun. The pool is divided into sections for swimmers and non- swimmers, as well as offering a paddling pool for the smallest family members.
More than simply a swimming complex, there is a riverside restaurant, play areas for children, table tennis, a waterslide, and deckchairs and sun umbrellas for hire. The Schwäbis River Pool is the perfect place to spend a warm summer’s day in Thun.
Lido Ascona
Lido Ascona – a stunning 40,000m2 park on the shores of Lago Maggiore – is one of Switzerland’s best kept secrets. Boasting one of the longest sandy beaches in Switzerland, countless trees for shade for when you need to get out of the sun, as well as restaurants, bars and a variety of sports facilities, Lido Ascona has something for everyone.
Lido Ascona is perfect for a family day at the beach, trying your hand at water sports – including water skiing and wake boarding, or unwinding at the various wellness and relaxation facilities.

Rhybadi Schaffhausen
If cooling off in the refreshing waters of the Rhine whilst marveling at the view of Munot Fortress, sounds appealing to you, then let us introduce Rhybadi Schaffhausen (also known as Rhybadhysli). These beautiful 140-year-old wooden-sided river baths are the oldest of their kind in Switzerland.
Perfect for families with children from 6 years old, this historic complex also offers 1 and 3m high springboards, various pools – including one with a floor for non swimmers, a solarium, a Finnish sauna and even books that can be borrowed, if you forget to bring one.
There is also a small bistro for drinks and snacks, and a cultural programme including cinema evenings, DJs and musical guests, and many other exciting activities.

Aare, Solothurn
The Aare River – which flows through Solothurn – provides a wonderful setting for a wide range of swimming and other water-based activities. Aside from boating, canoeing and paddling, the Aare is known for letting visitors “go with the flow” – Literally! There are also plenty of waterside bars, cafes and facilities where swimmers can stop for a drink, snack, or to simply enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
