British School of Geneva's Reformation Walk

May 26, 2017

On 23rd January, BSG’s Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) took a walk around the Old Town of Geneva.  The purpose of the walk was to celebrate 500 years since the beginning of the Reformation, which was an important time in Geneva’s history.
Students spent time studying the Reformers’ Wall in the Parc des Bastions, answering questions in English and French, as well as visiting the Cathedral, taking in Calvin’s Chair.  On the way, they walked up the Rampe de la Treille to see the “marronier officiel”, the official chestnut tree, although there was no sign of spring buds yet!  It was an extremely cold day, with snow still on the ground, but students were wrapped up warmly and the walk was vigorous. Students said they particularly enjoyed climbing the 150 plus steps up the cathedral towers to see the view over Geneva, although the weather conditions did not allow us to see the mountains.  They learnt about different aspects of life when Calvin lived in Geneva, and the beginnings of Protestantism.
