Hotel Institute Montreux (HIM) Celebrates 30th Anniversary and Academic Success of its Young Graduates

On Friday 19 June, the annual graduation ceremony took place at the Hotel Institute Montreux (HIM), a hotel management school and member of the Swiss Education Group (SEG), in the lead-up to its 30th anniversary. In the presence of industry representatives and representatives from the commune of Montreux and Northwood University (United States), which is HIM’s academic partner, 166 graduates of 40 nationalities were awarded their bachelor’s degrees, higher or postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees. The future leaders of the hospitality and tourism industry have successfully completed their hotel management and tourism studies, which included specialisations in finance, marketing and human resources.

“We do everything in our power to offer our students a unique experience, both on an academic level and on a personal and human level. Today we are proud of our graduates, who will not only take with them an excellent understanding of the hospitality sector, but also practical experience gained during their placements”, explained Ulrika Björklund, Academic Dean at the Hotel Institute Montreux.
 
During his speech to the young graduates, President Keith Pretty of Northwood University (United States), highlighted the following: “For the last 12 years, we have been the proud academic partner of HIM, which offers an unrivalled quality of teaching in the field of hotel management. Switzerland itself offers knowledge and skills that are found nowhere else. It is an exceptional opportunity for the talented youngsters who are able to benefit from this experience”.

The following qualifications were awarded:

  • 91 Higher Diplomas in International Hotel Management (2.5 years)
  • 51 Bachelors of Business Administration in Hospitality Management (3 years) – delivered in partnership with Northwood University (United States)
  • 16 Postgraduate Diplomas in Hospitality Business Management (1 year)
  • 8 Masters of International Business in Hospitality Business Management(2 years) Dressed in caps and gowns, the stars of the day celebrated their academic success alongside their families, who had travelled from all over the world to attend the ceremony. As graduates of the Swiss Education Group, they join a network of more than 21,000 alumni, who are now employed in leading positions within the hospitality and international tourism industries.

HIM, Swiss excellence in hotel management training

HIM, which has been based in Montreux since 1985, has built itself an excellent international reputation. Thanks to its network of prestigious partners, which includes the likes of Montreux Jazz Festival, the Banque Privée Edmond de Rothschild and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, HIM is able to offer its students the opportunity to specialise in marketing, finance or human resources. From October 2015, the institute will offer a new opportunity to specialise in management within the luxury sector, which will be led by its new partner of choice, Hublot. The students will be able to explore and understand the luxury sector, which is experiencing significant growth, and will develop the skills required to forge a career in this sector.
Located in the lively town of Montreux, HIM is based in two former hotel establishments, which have been renovated in order to provide state-of-the-art accommodation and training. Each year, HIM welcomes 800 students from 60 countries.
