SIS Swiss International School Winterthur
Curriculum: Teaching at SIS is based on the curriculum of the respective canton. This curriculum is supplemented by elements of international educational practice as well as by pedagogical standards developed by SIS.
SIS Swiss International School Winterthur provides a complete education from preschool through to secondary school and college. On all levels, subjects are taught in German and English; however, bilingualism is not a prerequisite for joining the school at any level.
Our bilingual Preschool is a day school that offers a well-supervised, safe and stimulating learning environment for children aged three to six. SIS has developed its own curriculum for children in this age group. Our Preschool is the ideal preparation for the transition into the bilingual SIS Primary School.
At our bilingual Primary School, teaching is based on the curriculum of the canton of Zürich. This state curriculum is supplemented by elements of international educational practice as well as by pedagogical standards developed by SIS. By attending our Primary School, children are ideally prepared for the transition into our Bilingual College. Students can transfer to our school from public school system at any time.
Following primary school, SIS Winterthur offers two tracks towards graduation, either the Bilingual College culminating in the Swiss Matura, and the International College, also bilingual, that culminates in the IB programme.
We offer a two-year bilingual Secondary School programme as an alternative to the college path. At our Secondary School, students are prepared for continuing their education at college.
Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities
Our school building is centrally located in the Tössfeld district of Winterthur. The extensive facilities in the contemporary building have been equipped with modern infrastructure. In addition to spacious classrooms, we also have a range of special-purpose rooms such as an art studio, a well-stocked library, a music room, and a multipurpose hall where we hold our school assemblies.
An adventure playground on our rooftop invites children to climb, play balancing games or use the swing. In our street soccer park, the older students can often be found playing table tennis, soccer or other ball games.
In the immediate vicinity of the school building, there are two spacious and modern sports halls.
SIS Swiss International School Winterthur is a day school. Including our optional before and after school care, the school day runs from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. It is important to us that students of all age groups feel happy and comfortable at our school, which is why we offer a range of services to cater for our students’ various needs.
Before and after school care is available to all children of SIS Winterthur.
All students at SIS Winterthur have the option of eating lunch in our cafeteria.
Our private day school provides a range of extracurricular activities and clubs for students of all ages, allowing them to develop skills that complement their school work or offer a welcome change from the regular academic programme.
SIS Winterthur offers a holiday club during the breaks in autumn, winter, spring and summer. For one week, the children enjoy taking part in a varied programme – including trips – under the supervision of an experienced team.
Just minutes from the main station, our school building offers a state-of-the-art learning environment in what used to be part of the Sulzer industrial park. Our students learn in generous, bright, modern and friendly classrooms and working areas. Sporting facilities and a park are in walking distance from the school and offer plenty of room to relax, play or do physical exercise. Why don’t you drop by for a visit and see for yourself?
